True Love Can't Be Extinguished

Real love lasts. True love is strong. It can overcome all attacks. That is one reason the Lord calls for marriage to be "until death do us part." If we really choose to love our spouse, that love will not fail to last, no matter what happens to us. Unfortunately, many people do not have that kind of love, because they have not made that kind of commitment. The Bible gives us a clear picture of the strength of love. (Song of Solomon 8:7) A huge torrent of water could never extinguish love. Rivers could never sweep it away. If we were to give all of our wealth for love, it would be utterly scorned, because love is much more valuable and lasting that riches. I wonder if we have this type of love in our marriages? I wonder if this is how we love the Lord?

From time to time I have to have a discussion with someone about losing our salvation. It seems to come down to one thing, usually. Most people know that Jesus paid it all to forgive our sins and redeem us from our sins. However, they wonder about what happens if a person stops believing in Jesus and turns away from the Lord. I have to respond that some people who claim to be Christians were never saved, and they can turn away from the Lord. However, a person who truly loves the Lord and puts his or her faith in Jesus as Lord and Savior, will never fall away. Why? Because nothing can cause true love to be extinguished, just as this verse assures us. We must not try to work for our salvation. That never works, just to try to be good enough. We must love the Lord with all our heart. (Matthew 22:37) When we respond to Jesus' love with that true love and trust Him, we will always have that love. Nothing will shake it.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Isaiah 1-3.
