I Will Hope in Him

Hope is a precious commodity. Once we lose hope, we become depressed, and we can't cope with life. Some people get their hope from other people. Some have hope because they have a job, or they have enough money to meet their needs. The problem with this type of hope is that it is temporary. It can be taken away at any moment, and what about hope for eternity? Earthly possessions and other people can never give us eternal hope. It can only come from God, Himself. Job realized this fact. He knew he was in terrible pain, and he could not understand why God was allowing it to happen to him. Still Job was not shaken in his hope. (Job 13:15,16) He had the confident assurance that even if God killed him, he could still hope in him. He knew he would have the opportunity to defend his ways before the Lord. He knew this would result in his deliverance, since he knew that he was a godly man. He knew no godless person could appear before God in that way. I pray that we all have this confident hope.

Hope is the steadfast assurance that what has not happened yet will happen.  It is directly tied to faith, because faith is the assurance of things hoped for and conviction of things not seen. (Hebrews 11:1 NASB) Our true hope comes from our relationship with the Lord. We know that because we know Him, He has forgiven our sins, and one day we will give an account of our life to Him. We will stand before Him as His child, and we will go over all we did in our life and why we did it. That is what Job longed for. He wanted to present his case that he did not do anything to cause his suffering. He knew God would be fair and loving. When we know the Lord, we can have the same confidence, and we can know it will result in our deliverance. This is not about being saved from sins, because when we die our sins are either forgiven or they are not. If we are forgiven, we will be delivered from any false charges against us or any misunderstanding of what we have done. Because of this, we can live in peace and hope every day. That is God's will for every believer.
