Revive Us Again

Life can drag us down sometimes, if we do not watch out. We can get defeated and depressed over the difficult things that happen to us. Also, we can drift away from the Lord. We do not do it intentionally. It just happens a little at a time each day and each week. We can just get spiritually depleted. When that happens, we need to be revived. We need the life of God to be revitalized in us. We need to begin living in His love and power once again. It will make all the difference in the world when that takes place. The psalmist knew this well. (Psalm 85:6) He had seen God's people Israel get away from the Lord. He knew they were very low. He asked God if He would not revive His people once again, so they could rejoice in Him. Many of us need to cry out to God today in the same way.

Revival doesn't come from having a series of meetings. Yes, we call that a "Revival" sometimes, but it is not. Real, true revival comes only from the Lord Himself. He gave us life in Christ. He is the Only One who can revive His life in us. That is why the psalmist says, "Will you not Yourself revive us?" That is an excellent prayer for all of those who are far from God or those who are defeated in their lives. We need to cry out to the Giver of Life to restore us to the abundant life of the Lord, so we can walk in it every day, living in victory. When that happens, we will rejoice in the Lord. We will not rejoice in our circumstances or just because something good has come to us. We will rejoice because of the Lord and what He means to us. We will rejoice in Him who restores the downcast. When we get to that point, we will rejoice no matter what comes our way. That is why I say, "Revive us again, please Lord, so we may really rejoice in You."
