No Worthless Thing Before My Eyes

There are a lot of worthless things in our world today. In fact, I would have to say there are many more worthless things now than every before with the advances in technology. Why would we spend precious moments of our lives on worthless things? We all need to answer that question for ourselves. We only have a fixed amount of time on this earth, and we do not know when our time here will come to an end. It doesn't make sense to waste our time on worthless things. David came to grips with this issue, and he let us know about his decision. (Psalm 101:3,4) He would not put any worthless thing before his eyes. In fact, he had made the firm choice.  He hated the work of those who fall away from the Lord's way and values. He determined not to let that work fasten its grip on him. He decided to send away anything that led to a perverse heart, and that he would know no evil. I believe we should all take this road in life.

When we set worthless things before our eyes, those things get into our mind and our memory. The rest of what we do in life is affected by what we have in our mind. We are led by our memory in so many ways. I think of the worthless things on the Internet, on T.V., and on videos of all kinds. If we set these things before our eyes, we will be influenced by them to go away from the Lord. It will lead us to sin. Therefore, we must decide to hate the work of those who have departed from the Lord. We do not hate them, at all, but we realize they damage our life, so we cast it away, as soon as we see it. We must determine that a perverse heart will depart from us, because we will not allow it. We will confess it, repent of the perversity and change our actions by the power of the Spirit. In fact, we must determine not to know evil of any kind. To say it in a positive way, we must decide to set our minds and our hearts on the positive things of the Lord. (Philippians 4:8,9) That is what all growing, fruitful Christians do every day.
