My Soul Thirsts for God

I wonder how much we hunger and thirst for God? Jesus said that those who hunger and thirst for righteousness would be filled. We can't hunger and thirst for righteousness unless we are hungering and thirsting for God. He is the Righteous One. He is the Only One who can pronounce us righteous before Him. He is the Only One who can show us the way to be righteous with Him and other people. Therefore, we must hunger and thirst for God, and when we do, He promises that we will be filled up. The psalmist knew this well. (Psalm 42:1-2) He said that as the deer pants for the water brooks, his soul thirsted for God. His soul thirsted for the living God. He was so longing to be satisfied in God's presence that He was ready to go to heaven and be in God's presence. How many of us want God that much?

God is the Only One who can satisfy the deepest needs of our soul. That is why our soul needs to thirst for God. Our mind should thirst for more understanding of the Lord and His power. Our will should thirst for the Lord to direct us in His way every step of every day. Our emotions should be thirsting to experience all of the love of God, as well as, the joy and peace of the Lord.  In short, we long to be in the presence of God so much that we will gladly spend time at His feet in prayer and Bible study. We will gladly obey what He says, so we will know Him more and more. That is the key to living life to the fullest. Please, I pray we all will thirst for God in this way, so we will long to go to heaven at any moment. We know nothing could be any better than to be as close to God as possible.
