The Lord Going Before Us

We must never get ahead of God or lag behind God. We need Him with us all the times, because we can't handle the problems and enemies of life in our own power. We must make it a priority to seek the Lord early in the day, and follow closely behind Him all day long. That way, He will go before us to fight for us and show us the right way. David knew this. When he was going to battle with the Philistines, he inquired of the Lord to make sure he should go against them. Then, he followed God's commands. (II Samuel 5:24) In one instance God told David to have his men wait until they heard the sound of marching in the tops of the Balsam trees. That was God's sign for them to move forward because the Spirit of God was going before them. Of course, when they did that, they defeated the Philistines in God's power. We need to do the same thing today.

The Bible words for the Spirit in both Hebrew and Greek are the words for wind or breath. We see this often in the Biblical accounts, like the wind sound that came on the Day of Pentecost when the Spirit filled the believers in the upper room. (Acts 2) The Spirit is the Person of the Godhead who supplies the energy for God's acts. When we get saved, the Spirit abides in us, but again, we must learn to walk in the Spirit, not getting ahead of God or lagging behind. It is imperative for us to listen for the marching sound or the wind passing through our surroundings, so we know the Lord is going before us. Then, we can know we will have success. I pray we will all come to be that sensitive to the Spirit, and we will fully submit to His leadership and power in all we do.
