Making God's Will a Priority

We all have priorities, whether we know it or not. We have things that we do every day and on a regular basis. Those things are our priorities. Also, when we have something special that we need to do, we usually make it a priority, In either case we put other things aside, so we can focus on the most important things. This should be especially true when we are talking about our regular spiritual priorities and our special spiritual priorities. Solomon knew this well at the beginning of his reign. Therefore, he made it a priority to do what God had told his father David. (I Kings 5:5) He set out to build a house for the name of the Lord his God and fulfill what God told David would happen when his son became the next king. In his wisdom, Solomon knew what should be his special spiritual priority. I wonder how we are doing in this area.

What are the daily spiritual priorities we all should have? There is no question that prayer and the study of God's Word must be priorities, if we are to be a faithful follower of Jesus. We must make them as much of a priority as anything else we do on a regular daily basis. If we let other things get in the way of our spiritual priorities, Jesus is not Lord of our life, and we will not receive His power and blessing. In the course of praying, reading God's Word, and attending Bible study, as well as worship at our church, we will hear from God. He will show us what He has for us to do. It will be specifically for us, and we must make that our priority. If we fail to follow His will for us, as individual believers, we will miss His plan and purpose for our life, and we will fail to bear the fruit that brings Him glory. We must not let any of these things happen. We must put God and His will first every day, every week, and all of the time.
