Driving Out Evil Completely

Joshua led the Israelites to conquer all the land. Then, it was divided among the tribes, except for the tribe of Levi whose inheritance was the Lord.  As the land was allotted to each tribe, they were to go in and drive out the Canaanites. God was punishing the Canaanites for their terrible evil. Therefore, Israel was to drive out the evil inhabitants completely.  (Joshua 17:11) However, the Canaanites were entrenched and powerful, and Israel failed to trust God to fight for them, so they let them stay. They did not completely drive out the evil, and it came back to haunt them. There is a spiritual principle for us in this.

We have to repent of our sins and trust Jesus as Lord and Savior to be saved. Then, we are to grow to be more like Him each day. To do this, we must confess any sins the Spirit shows us and repent of them by removing them from our life. We must drive out the evil completely or it will come back and dominate us. We can't do this on our own, but with God's power, we can. This takes daily diligence to depend on God and hate any sin in our life. I pray we will all drive out the evil completely so we can be as completely like Jesus as possible.
