Not Watering Down God's Word

Each of us, as believers, is a testimony to Jesus Christ everywhere we go. We are sharing the Good News by what we say and what we do. When we share with people who know the Lord, we have a fragrance of life that comes forth. However, when we share with people who are not believers, it is a fragrance of death. Yes, that is a difficult situation sometimes, and we are tempted to wiggle out of some of the discomfort by watering down the Word of God. (II Corinthians 2:16b-17) However, if we are really faithful to the Lord, we will never do that. We will remember we stand in Christ's presence when we speak. He looks us in the face, and we get what we say from Him. Then, we say it as honestly as we can, no matter how it is taken. This is essential for us to be truly used by the Lord.

There are many professing Christians who are watering down God's Word today in an effort to make it more palatable to unbelievers. They are taking it to the streets to sell it cheap, but there is one main problem. It is no longer God's Word. They are not getting their message straight from the Lord and sharing it honestly. They are twisting God's Word, and it is really their message not His. That way of sharing is worthless. In fact, it is worse than worthless, it is totally destructive. When the Word of God is watered down, people are led astray from the Lord, the way of salvation, and His plan for the Christian life, all the while thinking they are doing the right thing. That is why teachers and preachers will receive a stricter judgment, and we will have to receive God's harsher punishment for leading people astray. However, this truth applies to all believers, since we are all His witnesses, and what we say does matter.
