The People Procrastinate

Most people have a very serious problem for their lives. They procrastinate. They put off what they know they need to do until a later time. Things continue to build up, and soon, life is in disarray. Because of their procrastination, they do not know where to start on all of their responsibilities, so they are paralyzed into total inaction. They give up on doing a lot of important things. The people of Judah were guilty of the sin of procrastination when they returned from the exile in Babylon. God told them to begin by rebuilding the Temple in Jerusalem, but the people procrastinated. (Haggai 1:2) This upset God greatly, so that He sent Haggai to confront their sin. Let's consider how this sin effects us today.

Being a disciple of Jesus Christ requires obedience. It is never enough to simply know the right thing to do. We must do it to be obedient to God and follow Jesus. Our obedience needs to be complete. Jesus is Lord, and when He tells us to do something, we must obey immediately, because His timing is very important. If we procrastinate on doing God's will, we can miss the opportunity completely, or we can cause the results of our obedience to be lessened. Therefore, we must be immediately obedient to the Lord or we are being disobedient. That is why procrastination is such a serious sin. However, often we tell God we are so busy that we will do His will later. That is never true. As believers, we must never be too busy with doing our own will to do God's will. That makes us the master of our life, not the Lord. I pray we will all stop procrastinating and start obeying the Lord. It will make a huge difference.
