What God is Looking For

I wonder how many people have a simple ethic for their life? Our ethic is the standards by which we live as we relate to others. I am afraid a lot of people simply go by how they feel at the moment, or the circumstances at that particular time. If we live like that, we will make plenty of mistakes, because we will act in a selfish way that doesn't really consider what is best. Micah gave us God's ethic for us, as believers. He told us what God is looking for in men and women. (Micah 6:8) Let's take a fresh look at this famous verse, and ask God to show us how to live each day.

God does have a set of guidelines by which we should live every day. It is plain and simple, even though it is hard to do, at times. God wants all men and women to do what is fair and just to our neighbors. Please, remember, the word "neighbor" means everyone with whom we have contact, not just the people who live next door. If we are fair and just to others, we will treat them as we want to be treated, and we will follow God's standard for what is right and good. God expects us to be compassionate and loyal in our love for others. We are not to think of what we can receive from others, but what we can do for them and how we can be a faithful friend, no matter what happens in life. Then, God really desires for us to be humble, not thinking too highly of ourselves, but thinking very highly of God. We should take everything about God very seriously, as we follow Him in our humility. If we will live by these standards, our lives will be pleasing to God and to other people.
