God will Punish Us, but Fairly

When we come to know the Lord Jesus, He is with us, and He will save us. We are secure in our salvation, because He has paid for all of our sins on the cross. However, we still commit sins after we are saved. Then, we are to confess those sins to be cleansed, so our relationship with God can be as close as possible. However, we still receive punishment for our sins, because God loves us, and He wants to lead us to do what is right and be blessed. He always punishes us fairly, and He does it just right each time. That is much the same thing that happened to Judah in Jeremiah's day. God promised to be with them and save them, unlike the godless nations which He was going to destroy completely. With His people He promised to punish them fairly, but it would be more than a slap on the wrist. (Jeremiah 30:11) That is just what any loving father would do for his children.

We don't like punishment, but it has its place in our lives. God knows our human nature. He knows that if He doesn't punish us for our sins, we will be more likely to sin again and again. Those sins will separate us from Him and lead us to destruction, even though we are one of His children. Therefore, God punishes us fairly. He knows all of our motives, our thoughts, and our actions. That is why with His perfect wisdom and discernment, He can always punish us, just the right way. We should not get mad at Him, but instead, we should take heed to what He is trying to teach us and mend our ways. Sin is serious, so when we sin, the punishment will be substantial, not just superficial. We will feel it and know we need to repent and go God's way. That is the best way for us to live. That is what God wants for us when He punishes us.
