Walking Out on God

Researchers tell us that the fastest growing religious group in America is the "Nones." I am not referring to "nuns." I am referring to the growing group of people, who when they are asked for their religion say they have none. Many of these people were raised in church or even went to church as adults, but they have walked away from the church and God. That is what King Joash did after the death of Jehoiada the priest who raised him to follow the Lord.  When this happened the prophet Zechariah spoke up to warn the king about his deliberate action to walk away from God's commands. He reminded Joash that if he walked out on God, God would walk out on him. (II Chronicles 24:20) I hope none of us have done this, but some may have, or we may know people who have walked out on God.

There are many reasons why people reject God and decide to go their own way. Sometimes, they want the pleasures of this world, and they know God's commands forbid those things for our good. Other times, they think they are smart enough to know that God doesn't really exist, so they convince themselves there is no God. However it happens, it is a very serious sin. God has revealed Himself to all of us. He may have used the church, our parents, the Bible, other believers, or things we have  heard or read. Therefore, we all know that God is real and that we need to walk with Him, not walk out on Him. When we make the decision to walk out on God, He walks out on us. That is a terrible condition to be in. God says, "OK, I will leave you alone." If we do not have faithful relatives and friends to pray for us and share with us, we could be satisfied with our life, but on the broad road that leads to Hell. Please, do not let that happen to you or to those you love. Walk with God, and He will gladly walk with you for eternity.
