Bursting with Joy

The writer of Chronicles gave us a great description of the attitude of the people in Jerusalem when King Hezekiah cleansed the Temple and celebrated the Passover after many years of not having this important feast. Once again the people gathered and worshiped the Lord, as they should have been doing all along. The whole city was bursting with joy. (II Chronicles 30:26) I believe we should all be bursting with joy when we get to gather for worship again on the Lord's Day.

Sometimes we do not know how important something is to us until it is taken away. When we are deprived of fulling one of God's times of celebration, it takes a toll on us spiritually. During this time of the pandemic, we have not been able to get together to worship the Lord Jesus on the Lord's Day each week. Yes, we have been worshiping at home, watching the services online, but that is just not the same. Now, I hope we see what we are missing. I pray we are even more committed to worshiping together once this is over. After all, Israel was celebrating the deliverance from Egypt and God's protection of their firstborn. We are so privileged to be able to celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus and our salvation from sins, once and for all, and we get to do it with our spiritual family on a weekly basis. What could be a better reason to be bursting with joy?
