God's Signposts, His Course for Life

I have been asked by many people how to know God's will for our lives. To a lot of people it seems impossible to know with certainty the direction God wants us to go. I have told all of them that is not the case. God has a plan laid out for all of us, and He wants us to find it. He is not hiding it. That is what David told his son, Solomon, the new king of Israel before he died. He admonished his son to be strong, do what the Lord would tell him to do, and to walk in the paths He had shown him. David said that the key was to follow the signposts set out in the revelation to Moses. If he would do that things would go well for him. (I Kings 2:1-3) I believe strongly the same thing is the key for us today.

The Bible reveals to us his course for our life. In Solomon's day the Bible was the first 5 books written by Moses. Now, we have all 66 books God inspired. If we read the Bible and follow God's commands and principles for our lives, we will know about 95% of the course for our lives. As we draw near to God through knowing His Word, we can know His heart and His way of thinking. Those things will show us more of the way we should go since we are to be like Him. It is only less than about 5% of our course that we must receive through God answering our prayers or giving us direction through other believers and the circumstances of life showing us His way. That is why the signposts laid out in His Word are the most important. If we miss a main turn in life and get way off of God's path, we will not be able to see the 5% until we get back on track. Therefore, we must stay in God's Word and obey all He tells us. That is the straight road that leads to life.
