A Prophet like Moses

The People of Israel wanted a prophet to speak to them the words of God, because they were afraid to approach God in all of His glory and power. Moses acted as that prophet, as long as he was alive. However, when it was nearing the time of his death, God showed him that He would send another prophet like Moses, so the people could learn from him. Anyone who did not listen to that prophet would be held responsible for rejecting His message. (Deuteronomy 18:17-19) Who was this prophet like Moses? Let's read closely to see his identity.

God promised to raise up a prophet like Moses "from their kinsmen." In other words, this prophet would be a descendant of Abraham. Also, God promised to tell him what to say, and he would pass on to them everything He commanded him to say. Finally, he would have the authority to hold anyone responsible for not listening to him. Who do you think this describes? I believe it describes Jesus, who came as a descendant of David. He came as the "Word" to tell us all the Father wanted us to hear. Jesus definitely has the authority to hold us accountable to His words, and He does that well. Therefore, I believe Jesus was the prophet like Moses to lead us out of bondage to sin and into the glorious freedom of living God's way.
