God's Justice
God is always completely just and righteous in all He does. We can question Him, but it is our own peril. When God told Abraham that He had come down to see the wickedness in Sodom and Gomorrah for Himself before He destroyed them, Abraham chided God about not being just. He asked if God would destroy the just with the unjust, but finally the Lord told Abraham He would not destroy these cities if He found even 10 righteous people in them. That did not happen. The only ones who knew the Lord, were Lot, his wife, and his two daughters. God delivered them forcibly by having His angels pull them out of the city. Then, He rained fire and brimstone on the entire plain, killing everyone because of their wickedness. Even Lot's wife died for looking back with longing on these two very evil cities. (Genesis 19:24-26) There is a great lesson for all of us in this historical account.
God will always punish sin, and when the sin is so pervasive, He will even wipe out whole cities and areas, before the sin spreads to others. God knew that the people of Sodom and Gomorrah would never repent of their sin. He knew that their sins were corrupting people, like Lot's family. Therefore, He chose to terminate all of them. That was the merciful thing to do, since they would not change, and they we taking others down with them. Also, God will remove believers when they become a detriment to His kingdom work. Lot's wife looked back, wanting to return to her evil surroundings. Therefore, He turned her into a pillar of salt to remind others of the sin of looking back. This is why all believers must have a healthy fear of God. This would have helped Lot to have stayed away from the Jordan plain in the first place, but he compromised with sin for the sake of more wealth. It ended up ruining his life and family. Please, learn this lesson about God's justice and do not test Him. He is always just and completely consistent in His punishment of sin.
