Good and Perfect Gifts

As Christmas day draws near, it seems there are many of us who are looking for just the right gift for the people in our life. We search the Internet and the stores, until we find what we think is a good gift or even a perfect gift for each person on our list. It is a lot of work, and sometimes, we fail. The person for whom we bought the gift does not really like it, or it is the wrong size or color. What a let down! However, that is what we get when we put a lot of emphasis on material gifts at Christmas or any time. Instead, we need to realize what James told us. Every good and perfect gift comes down to us from God, the Father of lights. (James 1:16,17) God's gifts are just what any of us need to make our lives all they should be.

God gives us so many gifts. His grace is sufficient for any needs we have. (II Corinthians 12:9) Of course, His salvation is the greatest gift that anyone can ever receive, and it comes to us by His grace. (Ephesians 2:8,9) Once we have redemption through Christ, we have a home in heaven and an inheritance that is perfect and undefiled.  (John 14:1-3) What more could we ask for? However, God's perfect gifts just keep coming, as He lavishes on us just the right spiritual gifts for us to serve Him according to who He made us to be. (I Corinthians 12:4-11) I could go on and on, but I think we all get the message. We should focus on the Lord and His perfect gifts, instead of anything in this world that will pass away.

Tomorrow, I intend to read James 3-5.
