Died Once, Coming Twice

The author of Hebrews is very clear. It is appointed for people to die once. Then, we will experience the time of judgment before God. This is generally true for all peoples everywhere. That is why it is so good that Christ came to die once for the sins of the whole world. However, that is not the end of the story for Him. He will come again to bring salvation to those who are waiting for Him. (Hebrews 9:27,28) Therefore, we all have something for which to be prepared, either death or the Second Coming of Christ.

Death comes in all ways. Few of us have the luxury of knowing when and how it will come for us. However, the Lord makes it clear that we are to be ready by knowing Jesus as our Lord and Savior, as well as, by living a faithful Christian life until the last breath comes. We all need to be constantly expecting and ready for this time, since death will come once, and then, we will face the Lord to give an account of our life. The reality is that there will be exceptions to this. If we are alive when Jesus comes the second time, we will be changed instantly to meet Him in the air and go to heaven for the Judgment. Again, the Bible is clear that this could happen any minute, too. We prepare in the same way, but He wants those who know Him to be waiting for Him to come with expectation and longing, not dread. If we love Jesus as we should, we should be glad to see the One who died for us and to go with Him to the place He prepared for us. I pray we are all living by faith daily and doing what the Lord has laid out for us to do with joy and expectation to see Him.
