A Prayer for Our Leaders

My Bible calls Psalm 72 a prayer for the king. Then, it simply says, "Of Solomon." I believe Solomon was inspired by God to write this prayer in his wisdom, because he knew well God's purpose for him as a leader of the people. The whole psalm is instructive, but two verses jumped out at me. (Psalm 72:6,7) I would encourage all of us to consider praying these things for our leaders regularly. It would make a world of difference in our country.

Just think if our leaders were "like rain that falls on cut grass, like spring showers that water the earth." It would mean that their purpose would be to nourish the people with the correct elements for their growth and the growth of the country. Also, the rain falls on all of the grass, not just certain parts, so the leader should be all about helping all people to reach their fullest potential. Then, we should pray for the "righteous to flourish in his days." So often today, we see many of our leaders calling for unrighteous things to be legalized or expanded in our society. This is the opposite of the Founders, who realized that a republic would not succeed without moral people of character. Finally, we should pray for our leaders to see "well-being abound." The spiritual, physical, and psychological well-being of all people is important. We should all strive together to assist our neighbors and friends, but it takes the conscious efforts of our leaders to make the right economic decisions and pass the right laws so all people can experience well-being. I know our leaders may never accomplish all of these things, but I believe we should pray for them to do so for the good of all people and the good of our country. #nhbaptistdotorg

Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalms 73-75.
