Where is Your Treasure?
Jesus had a way of getting right to His point using only a few words. That is quite an art. When it came to material possessions, He was very clear that we should seek after God's kingdom, and all of the material things we need will be provided by God. Also, He exhorted us to put up our treasure in heaven, instead of storing it up on earth. Earthly treasure can be stolen, and it is subject to being lost due to deterioration. However, treasures laid up in heaven are eternally secure. However, His main point about the location of treasure was to say that wherever our treasure is, our heart will be also. (Luke 12:34) Now, that is profound statement we need to analyse well.
The Bible tells us clearly that we are to set our minds of things above, not things on earth.(Colossians 3:2) Yes, I know that we live in this world, and we need money and other resources to support ourselves here. However, that is not to be our focus in life. We are to focus on bringing people to Christ and on ministering to others in the name of Christ. When do these and other things according to God's will for us, we are laying up treasure in heaven, because God promises to bless us with incorruptible rewards when we do that. We don't do it for the rewards; we do it for the Lord whom we love and for our own good. If our treasure is in heaven, that is where our heart and mind will be also. That is where it is supposed to be for God to lead us in our lives and give us the abundant life. If we are laying up earthly treasures, our hearts will be on things on earth, thus taking us away from the blessings of God. Isn't that profound? So where is our treasure? That determines our focus and our success in the Christian life.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Luke 13-15.
