Saul's New Heart

When Saul was anointed to be the first king of Israel, God gave him "another heart." (I Samuel 10: 9, 11) The people who knew Saul before could see the difference in Saul, as they heard him prophesying with a band of prophets he met along his way. That was completely new behavior for Saul, but it is normal behavior for anyone to whom God gives another heart or a new heart. Do you have a new heart from God? I believe he wants all of us to have one today.

Now that we are living in the New Covenant time, once we trust Christ as our Lord and Savior, the Lord makes us born again. (John 3:3) In fact, we become a new creation in Christ Jeaus. (II Corinthians 5:17) We do not become perfect, but we are changed. We get a new, clean heart from the Lord, and His Spirit comes to live in us, which is even better than the anointing that Saul received to be the king. Yes, we can even speak forth God's word like Saul did, if that is God's will for us. That is why we say that being a Christian is not a change to a new philosophy of life. It is having a personal relationship with Jesus and being changed by His Spirit, so we can become more like Him each day, if we will walk in the Spirit.

Tomorrow, I intend to read I Samuel 11-14.
