Loyalty and Faith

Ruth is famous for being the grandmother of King David and thus, an ancestor of Jesus, even though she was a Moabite, not a Jew. That is remarkable, but what made this great heritage possible? It was her loyalty and her faith. (Ruth 1:16) If we can have these two qualities, God can do great things through us, as well.

After Ruth's father-in- law and husband died in Moab, she decided to be loyal to her mother-in-law Naomi. It was her desire to stay with her and to help her in their situation as widows, so when Naomi decided to return to Bethlehem, her hometown, Ruth pledged her loyalty to go with her. If she had not been loyal to Naomi, she would not have met her future husband Boaz, and she would not have been David's grandmother. God blesses our loyalty, when it is loyalty to the right people. At the same time Ruth decided to put her trust in the God of Naomi, instead of her idols from Moab. She must have learned something from her husband or in-laws or saw something in them that drew her to this faith commitment. This was the key to why God blessed her. She became a part of His covenant by putting het trust in Him for her life. Once she did that, God set the rest in motion. Therefore, I believe it was her loyalty and faith that allowed God to bless her and use her. The same could be true for anyone today, who is willing to do the same.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Ruth 2-4.
