The Written Word of God

Jeremiah was commanded by God to have his scribe, Baruch, write the words which the Lord had given him on a scroll and then read the scroll in the temple, which he did. However, when the scroll was read to the king, he burned it, so a second scroll had to be written which included even more of the Word of God. (Jeremiah 36:32) This reminds all of us of the wonderful gift God has given to us through the men who wrote the Bible so we could have a copy to read and to cherish.

Jeremiah was a prophet. He was used by God to speak forth the very words of God. Therefore, what he said to the people in the name of the Lord was the inspired Word of God. Then, when it was put on the scroll, it was the inspired written Word of God. We have 66 books of the Bible that were written for us, either by a person God inspired to write His Word, or by that person dictating God's Word to another person who wrote it down. God used each inspired person's vocabulary and culture to perfectly covey the Word of God to us. He gave it in various forms, sometimes prose, and other times in poetry or symbolic language, but it is all the Word of God. As we understand it correctly, it will never lead us in the wrong way as to what to believe or what to do. I pray that all of us will treasure the written Word of God so much that we will read it and meditate on it every day, and allow it to become a part of our every day lives.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Jeremiah 37-39.
