The Blood Makes the Atonement

God requires blood to be given for the atonement of our sins. (Leviticus 17:11) Under the Old Covenant it was the the blood of animal sacrifices, but now we do not need them any more because the blood of Jesus has been given to make atonement for sins, once for all. God has a reason for requiring the blood for atonement. It is because the life is in the blood, and it is given on the altar as one life is given for another life.

The word atonement means to make things right between two people. If you need a way to remember it, think about it this way, at-one-ment. It is making the two one again. Since our sins separate us from God, we need atonement to bring us back together in right relationship. The wags of sin is death, so Jesus gave His blood. He spilled out His life in our place, so we could be at one with God. All we must do is surrender to Jesus as Lord in faith, and He applies the blood to our lives to make the atonement complete. We should forever be thankful for the blood of the Lamb of God that took away the sins of the world, so all could be one with God by grace through faith in Him.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Leviticus 18-21.
