Joseph's Dreams

Joseph had two very famous dreams both of which seemed to point to the fact that one day his brothers and even his parents would bow down to him. (Genesis 37:9) Most of the time we emphasize that these dreams, along with the fact that Joseph was the favorite of all Jacob's 12 sons, were the reason that his brothers hated him and eventually sold him into slavery in Egypt. However, I think there is something we may have missed.

God was setting Joseph up to be sold, so he could rise to power in Egypt. There is no doubt about that. However, He could have done that in another way, besides giving him dreams. I believe the dreams may have served another purpose. The dreams could have shown Joseph that God had a great plan for his life. That expectation could have been one thing that helped Joseph through 13 years of slavery and prison in a foreign country. The dreams could have strengthened his faith in God to be able to speak to him and show him things, so that he could help the Pharaoh know the meaning of his dream. It is just like the Lord to give us a little glimpse of how He is working His plan, so that we have the inspiration to trust Him fully.

I pray that we all will be sensitive to all that God has told us and shown us, so that we can be strong and live for him all of our lives, no matter how much trouble we have to endure, like Joseph. Then, in the end we will see God do just what He revealed to us in part earlier.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Genesis 39-42.
