The Thief and the Good Shepherd

Many people think that the life Satan is leading them to live is the good life. When they follow him they have a lot of fun, they experience a lot of pleasure, and they keep their minds off of the serious things of life. Basically, that lifestyle is a way to try to escape reality. The only problem is that it doesn't work that way. Satan is not trying to help them have a good life. He is trying to lead them into an eternity with him in Hell. Jesus is the One who wants us to have a good life. In fact, He desires for each of us to live the abundant life here on earth, and then to live with Him eternally in Heaven. (John 10:10) Let me explain.

Satan is the thief. He comes to us to steal, to kill, and to destroy. He rebelled against God, and he lost, so now, he wants everyone else to lose, too. He comes to steal the good life, to lead people to death, and to destroy whatever he can. Isn't that the nature of sin? It seems to be good at first, but in the end it destroys and brings death. (Romans 6:23)

Jesus is the Good Shepherd. He wants to provide for us all we need to have a great life, an abundant life. Just like an earthly shepherd, He loves His sheep, and it is His will for them to have all they need. He wants to add meaning and fulfillment to life, not take anything away. Yes, He wants us to stay away from sin, but that is for our own good.

Please, do not listen to the thief. Follow the Good Shepherd for an abundant, eternal life.

Tomorrow, I intend to read John 11-13.
