God's Famine on the Land
God has sent famines to different countries at different times and for different purposes. Sometimes, it was a famine of food. At other times, it was a famine of rain and water to drink. However, at times He sends a famine for hearing the words of the Lord, like He told Amos about. (Amos 8:11,12) That has to be a terrible famine.
We still have the ability to hear the words of the Lord in the USA. We hear them on TV and on the radio. There are still good churches that faithfully preach the word of the Lord. However, I would say there is less hearing of the word of the Lord today than there has been in a long time. People can find it, but it is more and more rare. I wonder if we are on the brink of God sending a famine for His word on our country. It could be that we are like Israel, and we don't really want to hear His word, so we don't obey His word. Therefore, He could withdraw it, because of our neglect of it.
Please, pray that we have a revival of the church in America, so that people yearn for the word of God, and we begin to obey it like never before. Pray that wherever we turn in our country we will hear the word of the Lord, and God's Spirit will prompt people to believe it and live by it. We must do whatever we can do to persuade God not to send a famine of hearing His word on our land.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Jonah 1-3.
