Devising Iniquity

It is one thing to fall into sin when we are tempted, but it totally different to plan ways to carry out things that are sinful. That is what Micah calls devising iniquity. (Micah 2:1) God will make sure those who devise iniquity are severely punished.

What kind of people work out evil at night when they go to bed, so that they can wake up at morning light to carry out their plans? That is rebellion against God. That is evil in action. Satan and his demons act like that, and so do the people who are following him. Therefore, God has a special punishment for them, either here in this world or in the life to come. That is what "woe" means. God will make sure they feel great pain for these actions.

Devising iniquity could be planning how to lie to someone. It could be how to deceive a spouse to commit adultery or indulge in pornography. Of course, there are many people who plot how they can cheat their employers or steal from others. These are just a few examples of devising iniquity.

If you are practicing this type of sin, you either need to trust Christ as your Lord and Savior, so He can forgive your sins and give you His Holy Spirit to empower you to live righteously before God and others, or you need to be filled with the Spirit by confessing your sins to the Lord and surrendering to the control of the Spirit. We need to be filled with the Spirit every day, and then, we will not fulfill the desires of the flesh. (Galatians 5:16)

Tomorrow, I intend to read Micah 3-5.
