Goodness, Mercy, and Truth

The psalmist gives us 3 absolutes we can always count on.(Psalm 100:5) We live in a generation that does not believe in absolutes. People will tell you that there are no absolutes. Well, when they say that, they have just disproved their point, because in that case, there is at least one absolute. However, as believers, we know there are absolutes. God has made that clear in His Word.

The Lord is good. Therefore, we can always know what is good. It is anything that lines up with God's character and His inerrant Word, the Bible. The Lord never sins. Jesus Christ never sinned. Since the Holy Spirit, Who is God, inspired the Bible, it has to be good, too. We can always know  good and bad by following His Word and by judging our actions by His character..

God's mercy is an absolute, because He is love. Therefore, we can always count on Him being merciful. Mercy is God punishing us less than we deserve. Now, we can reach the end of His mercy, and He will punish us, but by then, He has already extended so much more mercy than we ever deserved. That may be the end of His mercy for us, but He is still showing mercy to others, as long as He can.

Finally, His truth endures to all generations. God's truth never changes. His truth about men and women never changes. His truth about marriage never changes. His truth about life never changes, and His truth about salvation never changes. If you hear anyone say that because of the changing times, we need to change our beliefs in truth, you know they are wrong. His truth endures, no matter how much men try to change it or distort it.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalms 101-104.
