Trudging Through This Great Wilderness

For us, as believers, this world we live in now is a great wilderness. It is not our home. We are citizens of heaven. We are trudging through this wilderness, like the Israelites trudged through the wilderness for forty years.(Deuteronomy 2:7) We are not being punished for disobedience like they were, but there is a great similarity. Let's think about it for a minute.

When we are following God's will, even in a wilderness, God is with us to meet every need. God blesses us in the work of our hands. He does this knowing that we live in a sinful world, and life will not always be fair. He can and does still bless us in our work, as we depend on Him.

As we trudge through this great wilderness, God supplies what we need. The world can't supply it, so if we are to have what we need, it will come from Him. Just like He provided manna for His people, He provides our food. Just as He gave them water, He quenches our thirst. Just as He caused their clothing not to wear out, He either supplies us what we need, or causes what we have to go further. When we depend on Him, we lack nothing.(Psalm 23)

Take a moment to reflect on your life. Are you seeking to find fulfillment and provision from the wilderness? If so, I can tell you that you are hungry, thirsty, and ragged. The wilderness will beat you up and leave you empty. On the other hand, are you seeking to find fulfillment and provision in the Lord as you trudge through this great wilderness? If so, you are blessed, and you have all you need. What a blessing as we walk with Him on the way to our home in heaven!

Tomorrow, I intend to read Deuteronomy 3-5.
