Great Riches
Solomon knew more about great riches than most people, because he had great wisdom and great riches from the Lord.(Proverbs 13:7) He warned us that if we focus on making ourselves rich, we could end up having nothing. However, we could not put our focus on riches at all, and end up with great riches. We all need to heed this warning.
Great riches are not found in money and possessions. Great riches are found in relationships. Our relationship with the Lord, our relationships with our family and friends, and our relationships with others will give us much greater riches than money can ever give us. If we are totally focused on being rich, so that we forget to nurture relationships, we will end up with nothing. On the other hand, we could be very generous to give our money and possessions away as the Lord leads us, so that we do not have a lot of money left, and still have great riches through God's blessings on us and our relationships. That is why Jesus admonished us to lay up treasures in heaven, not on earth. He knew that God blesses people here and in heaven when they are faithful to do His will in their relationships and with the money He gives them.
