Be Strong and Courageous
Four times in Joshua chapter 1 we read that Joshua is exhorted to be strong and courageous, as he takes over from Moses to lead the people of God into the Promised Land.(Joshua 1:7) This is very significant. God had told them many times that He had given them the land forever. He had promised to fight for them many times, as well. God had done and was going to do His part to conquer the land. Now, it was up to them to do their part, to be strong and courageous, especially Joshua, the leader. If they would decide to be strong and courageous in trusting God and His Word, nothing could ever stop them from taking over the land.
This truth is true for everyone all of the time. We must decide to trust God. It takes strength and courage to trust Him as Lord and to follow Him completely. God has given every one of us the ability to trust. We can be strong and courageous. It is up to us. Then, when God sees our faith, He does the rest. It is simple, but it is not easy. Pride, fear, and uncertainty stand in the way of trusting God. We have to stand strong about anything that would rise up to hinder us from trusting Him and obeying His Word. Then, He gladly prospers us and gives us the victory.
Think about this truth today. Every time you hear from God. Every time you know what His Word is telling you to do. You have to decide to be strong and courageous. You have to decide to do the right thing, no matter what anyone else thinks about it or what they might say. Then, if you decide to go with the Lord, He fights for you. He gives you words to say. He gives you more strength to overcome anyone or anything in your way. No fear! Just do it! See what God does. He is always able.
