Power to be Witnesses for Jesus Christ

Acts 1:8 is one of the pivotal verses in the Bible because it gives us a declaration of God's actions and what He will accomplish by His actions. He told the first disciples and all the disciples who have followed after them that we all would receive power once the Holy Spirit comes upon us. For the first disciples that happened on the day of Pentecost. Now it happens when we trust Christ as Lord and Savior. The Holy Spirit is God's gift to us. We receive Him into our lives, and He supplies the power for all we need as Christians. The result of God's gift of the Spirit is that we will be witnesses for Jesus everywhere we go.

We will either be good witnesses or bad witnesses based on how we allow the Spirit to fill us and to use us. The Holy Spirit wants to give us the fruit of the Spirit, so our lives reflect Jesus to others. We witness what Jesus is like by our words and actions. That will happen as we surrender to the Holy Spirit and let Him have control of our lives. Also, He will give us the words to say, so we can witness to the truth of Jesus Christ, and people can see Him as the Lord who died and rose again for them. He supplies the words and the power to overcome the fear and to be bold for Jesus. To be a good witness we must live a holy life and speak the truth of the gospel in love to everyone we can.

This is why I say that all Christians are called to be missionaries. We may only have the chance to influence those where we live. However, most of us have opportunities to spread the gospel around our state, our nation, and our world. It is our responsibility to do just that. God supplies the power by the Spirit, but we have to take the responsibility and go to those around us with the gospel message. God has done His work. Jesus died to pay the debt for our sins. He has saved us and given us His Spirit. Now, we will see if we are good witnesses or bad witnesses. One day He will tell us how we have done, when we stand before Him on the Judgment Day. Let's do it right, because we love Jesus and we love others as we should.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Acts 4-6.
