Valuing Life

David was a pretty amazing individual. He was not perfect by any means, but he was very unique in several ways. One of his excellent qualities was his respect for life and the way he valued life. Even though he was a warrior, he did not consider life cheap. He protected the lives of those around him, when he had the opportunity to do so.

This was especially true when it came to King Saul. David had two opportunities to kill Saul. He would have had a good justification for taking Saul out of the picture, since Saul was doing everything he could to kill David, even though David had done nothing to endanger or provoke him. After the second time of sparing Saul's life, David took the opportunity to remind Saul and the Lord about how he had valued the life of his oppressor. Then, he asked God to honor the way he valued Saul's life by honoring his life and delivering him from tribulation in his life.(I Samuel 26:24) I believe God did answer that prayer because He rewards those who value life.

We need to remember that to God every life is precious. Each person is created in His image. We must not devalue anyone or any group of people. We need to support life and value life in every way we can. Then, God responds by shining His favor on us, since we have a heart like His.

Tomorrow, I intend to read I Samuel 27-29.
