Waiting On The Lord

One day as I was prayer walking here in the neighborhood, I saw a heart wrenching sight. An older man and his wife had made their way to a shrine to pray. He was a stroke victim, so his right side was still fairly limp, but he stood before the altar and tried to clap his hands. The first time he missed, but then, he succeeded in a soft clap to wake the gods. Then, he prayed for a minute and made his way back to his home with his wife following him, pushing his wheelchair in case he needed to rest. My heart was broken because I knew he would get no response to his prayers. Those dead idols can't hear. They can't speak, and they do not see what he is going through. Only God could help him, and I was unable to speak the language, even if he would be open to hear the Good News. What a tragedy, but it happens every day. People seek relief from the wrong sources.(Isaiah 64:4)

The Bible is clear that God is there for those who "wait" on Him. Of course, we must look to the One True and Living God. However, we must also know what it means to wait on Him. When we wait, we "expect" God to come and to act, because we know Him, His character, and His ways. We know He loves us, and His will is best for us. Therefore, we wait anxiously for His arrival and the accomplishment of His will in our lives.

Also, waiting is "being prepared." Think of yourself. When you have someone coming to your house or you are going somewhere with a friend. What do you do? You get ready. You prepare yourself. You get up. You get dressed. You have everything you need. We need to be prepared for God to come and to act on our behalf. We need to make sure we have a clean heart and a right attitude. We need to wait in faith, knowing He can and will come. When we are clean, ready, and expecting, our hearts are prepared to receive God and His provision. That is why waiting on Him is so important. That is part of having an "unhurried time" with Him each day. We are practicing waiting on the Lord every day. He is faithful when we wait on Him.

Today, I read Isaiah 62-64.
