The Holy Spirit's Power

The longer I live, the more I see how much we need the power of the Holy Spirit all of the time. If there is one thing we, as Christians, have tended to neglect, it is the role of the Spirit in the Christian life. Without Him we are totally unable to become like Jesus and to live like Him in this world.

Just today I spoke to a lady having surgery. She needs good doctors and nurses, but she needs the healing power of God through His Spirit more than she needs anything else. Then, there is her need for peace which comes from the Holy Spirit, too.

Then, there is the lady whose father died this evening. She needs the comfort of the Holy Spirit. He is the only One who can bring that kind of strength in the face of such grief. However, He is able to lift us up and carry us at times when we can't make it ourselves.

Finally, there is the man who was hooked on drugs, but he was delivered from them by the power of the Spirit. Now, he needs Him to direct Him and deliver him from temptation every day for the rest of his life. That is no problem for the Holy Spirit, if he will just trust Him.

I could go on and on, but you see what I mean. We all need Him every day. Let's never try to live without the One Jesus sent for us when He ascended back to Heaven. May each of you experience the power of the Holy Spirit at Christmas and all year long.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Habakkuk and Revelation 15.
