Disoriented to the Truth

The disciples of Jesus spent the day after Jesus' death in fear and confusion. They could not fathom what they had seen. They were afraid the same thing would happen to them, so they huddled in the upper room. Their dreams were dead, and their hopes were dashed by what they had seen. It must have been very discouraging for them.

Why was that the case? Didn't Jesus tell them that He would be crucified and then, rise from the dead? Yes, He told them several times. Peter, James, and John were even on the Mount of Transfiguration when Jesus spoke to Moses and Elijah about his coming death. They all had heard the truth, but they were disoriented to the truth. Their minds were not following the truth of God. They were stuck in earthly thinking. They could not yet conceive of God's way of doing things. Only after Jesus came back from the dead and spent 40 days with them did they begin to see what was happening. Then, when the day of Pentecost came, and they were filled with the Spirit, they began to be oriented to the truth in the right way.

How often have we all been disoriented to the truth of God. We have totally missed what He was doing around us. We must all strive to allow the Spirit to fill us and guide us, so we see things the way God does. Then, we can say and do the right thing in each situation of life.

Tomorrow, I intend to read I Samuel 19-21 and Luke 11:29-54.
