Powerful Witnesses - Micah 1-3 and Revelation 11

God's way of calling people to repentance and faith has always been to send powerful witnesses to deliver the truth. God wants the message delivered in person, so He sends people. It is not a popular job, but it is very effective. Unbelievers who hear the Word of God from a powerful witness have no problem understanding the message. It is put in words they can comprehend, and the Spirit communicates them to their hearts. Micah tells us that he was such a witness. He was full of power by the Spirit of the Lord and of justice and might. That is the only way he could stand against the rulers and the false prophets, but he was very effective in his ministry. Revelation 11 tells us of the two witnesses who will spread God's Word during the first three and a half years of the Tribulation time. Take a moment to consider how God will empower them for these very evil days to come. No one can kill them, but they can consume their attackers with fire. They can cause it not to rain, turn water into blood, and send plagues on the earth. Finally, when God allows them to be killed the people celebrate a holiday like Christmas for three days while their bodies lie in the street. Can you image the powerful witness to the world as everyone sees them on TV or the Internet rise from the dead and ascend bodily to heaven? I would say that will be incontrovertible evidence that they were God's witnesses. However, not everyone will turn to the Lord even with this witness.

I believe God is showing us that we are to be His witnesses everywhere we go and that He will take care of us in much the same way. Our power comes by the Spirit, so we must be filled with the Spirit all the time. We may be martyred at some point, but it will only be when God allows it, and then, we will go to heaven to be with Jesus. What an awesome privilege to represent Christ as a powerful witness in our world. It is God's way, and we need to realize that and ask Him to use us in a mighty way.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Micah 4-5 and Revelation 12.
