November 9, 2006 - Jeremiah 46-47 and Hebrews 6

Whatever God promises to do, He will do, and whatever God does, He does it well. I hope that all of us have come to trust the faithfulness and and power of God completely. I know that He will speak to us about these things as we read these passages today.

Jeremiah 46 and 47 are prophecies against Egypt and Philistia. A prophecy is a promise from God. In both of these cases He promised destruction to these proud countries, because they would not listen to Him. The world might have thought that the destruction came just because of human forces in action, but the Bible makes it clear that it was the work of God. The same is true for us today. The world events do not happen outside of the leadership of God. He is in control, and He is leading all things to fit into His ultimate will. We can be sure that whenever we find a promise of God, He will bring it to pass. I pray that all of us will trust the promises of His Word and the personal promises He gives to us.

Hebrews 6 is a serious passage about going on to maturity once we are saved. It sounds to some people that God is saying we can lose our salvation, but I don't think that is the case. It is saying that if God saves a person, there will be good fruit. (v.6,7) If there is no fruit, there has been no work of God. Again, it is a case of what God does, He does well. If He saves us, He works in us to mature us into the likeness of Jesus. Some people are fooling themselves. They tell themselves they are saved, when there is no evidence. Believe me, when God comes to live in a person's life, there will be evidence of His presence. Salvation is relationship with Jesus. When we have a relationship with another person, we know it. It is a two way street. Don't trust what you did to bring salvation, because it is not by your works. Instead, look for what Jesus did in your life by His grace as sure evidence of your salvation.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Jeremiah 48-49 and Hebrews 7.
