July 9 - Proverbs 24,25

There are several verses in these two chapters that talk about being envious of evil men or giving into them. What does that say about a believer who would do that? Is his or her heart right with the Lord? Is he or she wanting money or fame like the wicked? Why? Is there a void in his or her life that is not being filled by the Lord? I ask these questions, because when you think about it, believers should not desire the same things that evil people desire, and it should not be pleasant to be around them, and why should we give into them? Stop and consider how great a blessing it is to be a child of God.

Our goal as believers should be to grow strong in the Lord, so we can stand in the day of adversity. We should seek many counselors, so we can know the truth and live it out. Even when we fall, we should have the confidence in the Lord that we will be able to get back up. We should desire to be able to help the unbelievers see that they need the Lord. We should not desire harm for them, but blessing.

Did you notice all of the verses that sound like verses in the New Testament? There are a number of verses in these chapters that are quoted in the New Testament. It is all the Word of God, and it all fits together.

Just one more thing this morning. Look at Proverbs 25:28. This should be a very important verse for all of us. It is very important to realize that each one of us has responsibility over our own spirit. We can control ourselves or we can be out of control. It is a terrible thing to have no control over your spirit. You are open to any attack Satan has to throw against you, if you do not have control of your spirit. Spend some time considering this. If you don't control your own spirit, what do you have any real control over in this world that is worth anything?

Tomorrow, I intend to read Proverbs 26 and 27.
