Saying It's Too Hard to Serve the Lord

Many people have the wrong attitude toward God and His commands for us. They hear what the Bible says, or they even read it for themselves, and they think that it would be too hard to serve the Lord. They don't want to put any effort into doing what God wants us all to do. Therefore, they simply reject the Lord or ignore Him and His commands for them. If they would have the right attitude, it would make a huge difference in their lives. This is true for believers and do non-Christians, as well.

The Jewish people in the days of the prophet Malachi had this problem in the worst way. (Malachi 1:13) "You say, 'It's too hard to serve the Lord, and turn up your noses at my commands,' says the Lord of Heaven's Armies. Think of it, animals that are stolen and crippled and sick are being presented as offerings. 'Should I accept from you such offerings as these?' asks the Lord" They were not committed to the Lord enough to follow His commands completely, so they tried find a way around them. I am afraid this happens today, too.

God's Word commands us to meditate on the Word of God day and night, but some Christians hardly ever pick up a Bible except to go to church. We are commanded to pray without ceasing, but a lot of people find it hard to spend 5 minutes in prayer. Some people go to church, but they don't sing the songs from their hearts, they just mumble the words. When God sees us doing these things He can't receive our service and offerings to Him. They don't bring Him glory. They are an insult to Him.

Instead, we should have the correct attitude. We should realize that God's commands are not burdensome. They are for our good. The best life we can have is to serve the Lord with all of our heart and follow His commands completely. Oh yeah, and that is possible, too. God never gives us a command that He doesn't help us to keep, if we will just decide to do His will and depend on Him to give us the power to do it. Let's get our hearts right, have the right attitude, and do things God's way. Then, let's see what He does.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Malachi 2-4.
