Twisting the Word of God
In one way the Bible is a pretty complicated book. That is partially true because it is 66 different books written by about 40 men over a span of about 1,400 years. On the other hand it is pretty simple in that we don't need any special wisdom or college degrees to read it and comprehend what God is saying to us. All we have to do is to look at what the whole Bible says about a topic, and it becomes clear. God inspired the authors to write it that way, because He wants us to grasp His Word and live by the correct meaning.
The problem comes when some people twist the Word of God to make it say what they want it to say. They are usually trying to manipulate others to follow them and their ways, so they distort the real meaning. Jeremiah confronted these people in his day. (Jeremiah 8:8) "How can you say, "We are wise because we have the Word of the Lord," when your teachers have twisted it by writing lies.? He hit the nail on the head. We see the same thing happening today.
There are so many different things about which the Bible speaks. The problem is that most people have not read the Bible enough to know the meaning of a lot of these things. Then, when they meet a teacher who is twisting the Word of God by taking a verse or two out of context, they fall for the lies. They start seeing the whole Bible in a twisted way. We must not sit by and allow this to happen to our friends, family, and neighbors. We must stand up for the truth of God's Word and dispel the lies.
As believers, if we will allow the Holy Spirit to illuminate God's Word to us, and if we will study it to show ourselves approved by being able to explain God's Word, we can really help others not to be taken captive. That should be the aim of every Christian. We should read God's Word, grasp His wisdom by the Holy Spirit, and use the wisdom to combat the lies that false teachers are spreading. God will bless us when we do this, and He will bless the others that we help understand God's truth and leave the lies alone.
