Go Wherever You Like

 Where would you go if you were free to go wherever you would like? That is an interesting question for several reasons. We would have to think about the places we could go and decide how to choose which is the best. Also, we should stop to consider which place would be the best for us to thrive and to live well. However, I wonder how many of us would stop to consider where God would have us to go first? I think that is what should be the most important factor to consider.

Jeremiah was given that opportunity because he had been faithful to the Lord and the Babylonians knew he was trying to get the leaders and the people to surrender to the king of Babylon. Once Jerusalem was conquered the leader of the army came to Jeremiah to give him his choice. (Jeremiah 40:4) "But I am going to take off your chains and let you go. If you want to come with me to Babylon, you are welcome. I will see that you are well cared for. But if you don't want to come, you may stay here. The whole land is before you - go wherever you like." Let's see what we can learn from this.

When we make decisions like where to live or other important choices do we make them selfishly? God doesn't want us to put ourselves and our needs first. He wants us to put Him first, and He wants us to put the needs of others before our own needs. That is what Jesus did for us, and it is what we should do for Him. After all, is life just about having as much pleasure as we can have? No. Life is about laying up treasures in heaven . Doing things that will last for eternity. That is why we should desire to do God's will for us and to invest in the lives of other people.

Life is short. We need to spend every day doing the best things, not just the good things. If God sets us free to go wherever we want to go like He did for Jeremiah, we need to say like Isaiah, "Here am I, send me." We should ask God to send us where we could do the most good for our family and for others. Then, we should be content with wherever God sends us. If we will do that, when we get to heaven it will be even sweeter for us because we will see all of the lives that we influenced by our witness. Therefore, let's go where God wants us to go every day.
