Giving the Lord Our Best
We go to church on Sundays. We go to some kind of Bible study group. We attend worship. Then, we go home. Some of us go to prayer meeting or other Bible studies during the week. However, we can do all of that without giving very much of what we have and who we are to the Lord. In other words those things cost us very little most of the time. The Bible calls on us to give our best to the Lord, and when we do that it will cost us more than just a little time and energy.
King David was very aware of this principle. He needed to offer sacrifices to God to stop the plague that was raging against Israel because of his sin of taking a census. (II Samuel 24:24) Araunah offered to give him his threshing floor and his oxen for the sacrifices, but David rejected his offer by insisting he pay for them because he would not offer sacrifices to the Lord his God that cost him nothing. So he paid for everything, and God accepted His sacrifices and stopped the plague.
Just think of what God has done for you, if you are a believer. He has saved you from your sins. He has given you eternal life. He has showered His blessings on you, both physically and spiritually. He has met your needs financially as you have trusted Him. What have you given to Him? We should all be generous in the giving of our tithes and offerings for His church and His ministries. We should give of our time for ministry, at home and abroad. We should be willing to go wherever He sends us, no matter the cost.
After all, God gave His best for us. He gave His Only-Begotten Son, Jesus, the second Person of the Trinity for our salvation. Jesus gave us all of His blood to pay for our sins, and He gave His life to die in our place, so we don't have to die and go to hell. He gave His all for us, can we really do anything less for Him? I think not. I hope we will all take a few moments to consider making the decision to give our best for the Lord, even if it costs us a lot.
