Whatever We Say or Do

We are not nearly as careful as we should be about what we say or do. It is so easy to say something quickly and not think about the effect it will have on others or on us. There are times when we act in a hasty manner, too. We end up making a huge mistake that we can't correct very easily. We need to have a Biblical mindset about all we say and do. Then, we will definitely be more careful all of the time.

The Bible is very clear on this issue, and it gives us the right mindset to help us say and do the right things in the right way. (Colossians 3:17) Whatever we do in word or in deed, we are commanded to do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to the Father through Him. I am not sure how the Lord could have been more clear and more all-encompassing than that. Let's think about it for a few minutes.

If we say everything we say in the name of the Lord Jesus that means we say it in His authority, so we have to speak what is in line with the Word of God, not just our opinion. Therefore, we have to be silent until we know what the Bible says, so we know what to say and how to say it. Also, we have to say what Jesus would say and say it the way He would say it. Of course, that requires us to know the accounts of Jesus in the Gospels, so we can fulfill this command.

Our actions have to meet the same standard. We can't be flippant in what we do, and what we do must be for the good of others. Whether we are at home or at work or in our leisure, we do what we do for glory of the Lord, not for our own glory. Then, God will bless our words and our actions. Then, we can give thanks to the Father through Jesus, because He has directed us, and He has blessed us for our faithfulness. It is not easy, but the Spirit will enable us, if we submit to Him and the command of this verse.
