Do What It Says

I am sure we have all noticed that there can be a big difference between what we know and what we do. That is one of the basic struggles of life. We must get to where we do what we know we need to do. Discipline is part of this, but it has a lot to do with our heart's desires, too.

James is very blunt about this and many other things in his book. (James 1:22) He says that we must not just listen to God's Word. We must do what it says. Otherwise, we are just fooling ourselves. I pray we will not be fooling ourselves, but we will be faithful to God's Word.

We tend to forget a lot of what we hear. Most of us forget well over 50% of what we just hear. When we read something that helps, but there are still a lot of things we forget. Only when we write things down, and we actually do something to act on what we have heard, read, and written, do we really remember to do it over and over.

Therefore, in order to do God's Word, it takes effort on our part. We read God's Word, and then, we write down in a journal what we learned and what God told us to do about it. After that, we put it on our daily or weekly "to do list" so we will follow through on it. Soon it becomes a part of our life, and we see God's blessings from doing His Word.
