Ignoring God's Commandments

The Old Testament commandments of God are still very important. Yes, I know we live in the New Testament times, but that doesn't mean we do away with the Old Testament. God inspired the whole Bible, and it is all necessary for us to know and do His will. There are some commandments which only pertained to the Old Covenant and the sacrificial system, but there are many which still apply today.

Jesus made that very clear in the Sermon on the Mount. He told us He did not come to do away with the Old Testament laws, but to fulfill them. (Matthew 5:19) So if anyone ignores the least commandment and teaches others to do the same, that person will be called least in the Kingdom of Heaven. But anyone who obeys God's laws and teaches them will be called great in the Kingdom of Heaven. Sounds important to me.

Today, we see pastors and churches who are saying that we do not need to follow the Old Testament. So they ignore all of the commands in the Old Testament because they go against what our culture is saying now. They compromise with the world thinking that it will get more people to come to their church. Sometimes, they say they are being more loving because they accept people with various sins condemned by God.

This verse is very clear about this situation. If we ignore the least commandment in the old Testament and we teach others to do the same, we will be called least in the Kingdom of Heaven. Instead, we must obey God's laws and teach them to others. Then, we will be called great in God's Kingdom. There is no question what God expects us to do.
