Purified and Set Free

The laws here in Leviticus go into much detail about how to deal with unclean people, clothes, and houses. In each case the priest was to be the judge to pronounce someone or something clean or unclean. Then, when the priest gave the final decision that all was clean, there was a ceremony of sacrifices and a living bird was set free. This showed that everything was purified, and now there was freedom to go on with life. (Leviticus 14:52-53) Moses told the people that when the priest had purified the house in exactly this way, he was to release the live bird in the open fields outside the town. That is how the priest would purify the hose and it would be clean. That ceremony speaks volumes to me about our salvation today.

We are all stained by sin. Those stains are not on our skin. They go all the way to our heart. God is the only One who can pronounce us purified from our sins. He does that once the blood of the Lamb of God, Jesus, has been applied to our hearts, and He knows that all of our sins are forgiven. We are pronounced clean forever. In addition, we are set free from the bondage to sin. Not that we are perfect after salvation, but we are no longer slaves to sin. We are free to be righteous and to soar high above the problems of this world, or to soar through them by the power of God. We are purified and set free by Jesus. We need to give Him all the praise and thanks. We need to honor Him by living our lives for His glory every day.
