Being Diligent to Continue

How many times have we set out to do something that the Lord laid on our heart, but it was not long before we stooped doing it? We could have even been faithful to continue for a year or two, but we still allowed it to get lost in our busy life, and we quit. Many of us could probably think of several things that would fit into this category. Now, let's ask ourselves, "How much better would my life be today, if I had been diligent to continue all of those things that God showed me?" That is a huge question for each of us, as believers. We see the answer in the life of King Hezekiah. (II Chronicles 31:21) He was diligent in every deed that he began in the service of God's temple, in the instructions and the commands, in order to see His God. Because of this Hezekiah prospered. I believe the same will be true for us, if we are faithful to continue.

God makes Himself plain to us when He wants us to preform some service for Him. Once we hear from the Lord, we have to change our life, so we have the time and energy to include what He has told us to do. Often, this means we have to say no to something we have been doing, no because it is bad, but because it is not the best for us. The same is true for following every one of the instructions and the commands of the Lord. They are not things we do when we want to do them, and they do not expire. God gives us His instructions and commands so we will seek Him, find Him, and grow in our walk with Him. Therefore, we need to be diligent like Hezekiah in "every deed" that we begin for the Lord and in every instruction and command from Him. Then, He sees our heart; He sees our faith to trust Him and follow Him, and He prospers us in His way and His time. That is the essence of the Christian life. It is a marathon, not a sprint. We need to be diligent to continue all the way until God calls us home to be with Him. Then, He will have a new list of things for us to do in His service for eternity.
